Chief Executive Officer, Ahtahkakoop Cree Developments Medical Holdings LP
Jay Ahenakew Funk is a dynamic Indigenous leader and bridge-builder who is continuing the powerful legacy of his late uncle, Ray Ahenakew—one of the most respected figures in Indigenous economic development in Canada. As CEO of Ahtahkakoop Cree Developments Medical Holdings LP (ACDMHLP), Jay is dedicated to ensuring that the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation thrives through sustainable, Nation-owned business ventures that create prosperity, autonomy, and opportunity for future generations.
A proud graduate of Notre Dame College (Athol Murray), Jay learned early the values of hard work, resilience, and teamwork as an elite-level hockey player. These lessons have shaped his leadership style: focused, determined, and always collaborative. He brings the same intensity and dedication to the boardroom that he once brought to the rink.
Jay is known as a connector—someone who builds relationships, fosters partnerships, and unites vision with action. Rooted in the Cree cultural teachings passed down from his mother, Jay brings compassion, humility, and integrity to every initiative he leads. He approaches economic development not just as a business strategy, but as a sacred responsibility to uplift his Nation and honour the sacrifices of those who came before him.
Whether launching health infrastructure projects, forming strategic partnerships, or supporting youth leadership, Jay lives by one unshakable belief: nothing is impossible when guided by purpose, community, and tradition.
